What is YouTube Premium APK?
YouTube Premium APK began its journey as Music Key came out in 2014, and, true to Google's passion for rebranding, morphed into YouTube Red and has now settled on YouTube Premium.
If you thought YouTube Premium was Google's answer to Spotify or Apple Music, well, think again. It's not primarily about music. Instead, it's a little bit of an everything package that jazzes up the regular YouTube experience. So, what do you get? Let’s find out!
Ad-free Viewing
Let's start with the biggest selling point of YouTube Premium: ad-free viewing.
Now we all know the drill with YouTube: one is just genuinely getting into the groove of a video or perhaps a music track, and ads do pop up. This is why YouTube Premium comes to the rescue.
A YouTube Premium subscription will wipe all those annoying ads away, from banner ads trying to sneak into your viewing space to those video ads that would rudely cut into your flow. You won't see them anywhere, even without using your desktop browser. Want ad-free on all your devices? Done. Do you want to view it on your smartphone, Roku, or other streaming gadget? You've got smooth viewing all the way.
And here’s a little inside scoop: YouTube's brass hinted that the ad load could crank up for users who use YouTube as a paid music service. That means you might be seeing even more ads without Premium if you're heavy into content on YouTube.
YouTube Music Premium Included
Here’s a sweet deal within the YouTube Premium package: YouTube Music Premium.
Like YouTube Premium strips away ads across YouTube, YouTube Music Premium keeps your music experience clean. There are no ads to interrupt your playlists, plus you get some nifty features like the ability to download tracks for offline moments.
YouTube Music Premium goes for $9.99 a month. But it’s bundled into your YouTube Premium subscription at no extra charge.
If you haven't married Spotify, Apple Music, or any of those other services yet, this is like hitting two birds with one stone. You get a YouTube experience without the ads and a decent music-streaming service in one shot. How's that for value?
Background Play on Mobile
Have you ever been in the middle of a killer podcast or jamming to a song on YouTube and then needed to send a quick text or check your emails? Normally, that would stop your video dead in its tracks. But not with YouTube Premium.
This is where it gets good: when you lock your phone or even jump over to another app, your video doesn’t skip a beat. It keeps playing in the background. This is huge, especially for those who use YouTube as if it were our personal radio station or podcast hub. Whether it's a deep-dive documentary, a lengthy Joe Rogan talk, or just a track unavailable on your regular streaming services, YouTube Premium keeps it going even when you’re off-screen.
Offline Viewing
This feature is a game changer, especially for those who aren’t always glued to super-fast WiFi. You can download videos and even entire playlists straight to your device. Whether it's long flights, saving data, or just prepping for those just-in-case moments when you find yourself in the middle of nowhere, YouTube Premium has your back.
But hold up, how about storage? Videos can eat up space faster than you can say "buffering," right? Well, if you’re more into tunes, downloading songs through the YouTube Music app is a bit lighter on the storage demands than pulling down full video files in the main YouTube app.
YouTube Originals
Once upon a time, one of the big draws to YouTube Premium was exclusive access to YouTube Originals, a lineup of unique shows in YouTube's kitchen. That all changed in early 2022 when YouTube ended the exclusivity around YouTube Originals.
What does this mean for us? Well, now almost anyone can enjoy most of the YouTube Originals content for free, though you'll have to sit through some ads, just like with regular YouTube videos. The platform mentions that "only select episodes may be available for streaming at a given time," but from what I've seen, there's plenty of Originals content available to binge.
But YouTube Premium members still get a sweeter deal. If you're a subscriber, you're not just watching these shows ad-free; you also get exclusive access to bonus material like deleted scenes and director's cuts. It’s like having a backstage pass to the cutting room floor.
Are you curious about what's on offer? Take a gander at the YouTube Originals channel. Some videos are marked as Premium, keeping them just for subscribers. So, if you're all about getting that extra content and skipping the ads, YouTube Premium still holds the key to the VIP room.
YouTube Premium's Extras
So, did you think YouTube Premium was just about videos and music? Think again because they’re rolling out some pretty neat extras: casual gaming. That’s right, under the banner of YouTube Playables, Premium now includes a whole arcade’s worth of games from your YouTube interface. We're talking classics like Angry Birds, The Daily Crossword, and even Solitaire.
With over 75 games in the catalog, there's something for people of all tastes. These are fully installed games, which means you can test each and every one of them using your mouse or touchpad, and, yes, your progress and high score get saved. It's more akin to Netflix's gaming offerings or what you see on Google Play Games. Considering how gaming content has exploded on YouTube, these Playables could hit the spot for many users.
If you’re a creator, YouTube Premium also kicks it up by giving you early access to experimental features in YouTube Studio. Fancy being one of the first to play around with cutting-edge AI tools? From a video conversation assistant and comment summaries to music recommendations and image generation, YouTube Premium lets you get your hands on these innovations before they go mainstream.
Important Note: YouTube Premium Is Not YouTube TV
Let's clear up some confusion because it's super easy to get your wires crossed with all these YouTube services floating around.
YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium are different from YouTube TV. How?
YouTube TV is a whole new beast: it's a live television streaming service from many channels. Think of it as your cable replacement. It comes packed with DVR capabilities and all those classic TV streaming features you’d expect.
Now, paying for YouTube Premium? That won’t get you access to YouTube TV. And flipping that around, a YouTube TV subscription doesn’t automatically grant you the perks of YouTube Premium, like ad-free viewing or background play. But there’s a little overlap: YouTube TV subscribers get to watch YouTube Originals just like Premium users, so there’s a bit of a perk crossover there.
There’s also another separate thing called channel memberships. This is where you can directly support your favorite creators with a monthly payment, snagging some exclusive benefits from those channels in return. But, and it's a big but, these channel memberships don’t swipe away ads across YouTube, just on the channels you support.
Make sure you’re signing up for the one that fits what you're looking for!
Pricing
So, how much will this cost you? Well, it's true that YouTube Premium isn't free, but there is a boatload of content available on YouTube. And yeah, the price hiked recently.
An individual YouTube Premium plan costs $14 monthly after a one-month trial. This was bumped up by $2 just this July 2023. And for the families out there or just a squad of friends pooling their digital resources, a family plan saw its price jump from $18 to $23 per month in October 2022.
But even with these price upticks, the family plan can cover up to six accounts. So, it's still solid value if you're splitting the cost. And for the students among us, YouTube has your back with a discounted rate of $8 a month. Just remember to prove you're still hitting the books once a year.
Should You Join YouTube Premium? in 2024?
So, should you fork over some cash for YouTube Premium as we hit 2024? Well, it really depends on how you use YouTube.
But if ads are no more than a minor irritant and not a deal-breaker, it's worth toughing it out with the free version. The same is true if you're cavalier about YouTube Originals content or don't use YouTube very often on mobile devices. Without compelling reasons for the upgrade, YouTube Premium might not be worth the extra dough.
But even if you choose to be free, YouTube still comes packed with features that can enhance your viewing experience. So, there are always solutions to make the most out of your YouTube time, premium or not.
